When you are practicing creative leadership, it has little to do with creativity and everything to do with what you are focused on. Are you focused on mission, purpose and the things that we all love and care about? Are you focusing on your long-term impact, truly scaling your capacity and capability or are you playing it all safe and making your decisions from a “play not to lose” perspective?
When you work in collaboration with others and work with a “playing to win” mindset (engaging, inspiring, unleashing), then your focus will be on creating an organization that everyone believes in. While playing not to lose can be compelling in the short-term (it does get results), it usually comes at a significant cost to the system and/or the leader. Are you looking for success or validation?
So is your goal to lead or to rule?
